Lola L. Cummings, 93, of Bremerton passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2013 at the Willows Retirement Apartments. She was born May 28, 1919 in Aurora, Iowa to George C. and Ina May (Clark) Kaiser. Lola grew up in Iowa and graduated from high school in Vinton, Iowa in 1937. Lola married her high school sweetheart, Alfred J. Cummings, in Vinton on May 29, 1937. They moved to Bremerton in March of 1942 for Al to work as a welder at PSNS. Lola worked at J.C. Penny's from 1950 to 1961 and at PSNS 1961 until retiring in 1974.
Lola was President of Lady Elks from 1965 to 1966 at Bremerton Lodge 1181. She was a volunteer for Harrison Hospital Auxiliary gift shop for 30 years. She and Al traveled the globe going to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Inside Passage to Alaska, Florida Keys and all states west of the Mississippi River. Beginning 1974, they spent a month every winter in Hawaii until 2002.
Lola enjoyed her family, playing cards, Bingo (she was a consistent winner) and watching sports and game shows on TV. She and Al had also enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, gardening and attended 30 years of Washington Husky football games. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary in 2008. She loved living at The Willows and was able to remain there with the loving care of her "girls" of Life Care Connections.
Lola was preceded in death by her husband, Al (2008); two infant daughters, her parents, one brother and one sister. Lola is survived by two daughters, Diana Hite of Port Orchard and Carolyn (Glenn) Chamberlain of Ephrata, Wash.; and her brother, L.
