Jerry Barbara Sibley Wascom also known as Aunt Teet passed at her home in San Angelo, Texas, Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013. Barbara, wife, mom, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother fought a courageous 16-year battle with cancer. Mom was a fighter and a miracle. We had wonderful years with her filled with joy and sorrow. Mom never had a bitter attitude; she always said "it is what it is" and went on with her life. She married the love of her life, John D. Wascom, on Nov. 2, 1956. A month later she was on a plane to Germany and didn't look back. Mom worked with Dad for 24 years and traveled the globe, seeing wonderful places during Dad's Air Force career. She was a member of the LA Paloma Dance Club. She is now reunited with her dance partner and waltzing through the gates of heaven. Mom worked at the Grape Creek Baptist Church Day Care in Grape Creek, Texas. She had a positive influence on several generations of families. She loved her babies.
Barbara is survived by her children, Steve Wascom of Bedford, Texas, Jerry Wascom and wife Joyce of Mesquite, Texas, Wanda Reyes and husband Luis of San Angelo, Texas, and Robert Wascom and wife Linda of Gladewater, Texas; siblings Paula Moore and Bobby Ray Sibley; grandchildren Michael and wife Melissa, Joshua, Stacey, Brandon, William, Elizabeth, Dakota, Maddison, Savannah and Cheyenne; one great-grandchild, Angel; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and the family of her heart, Patrick, Jan, Taylor and Hollye Sherman. She loved you all!
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John D, Wascom; her parents, Pearl and Ollie Sibley; sisters Irma, Pansy and Faye; and brothers Castle and Jimmy.
Visitation will be all day Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at the funeral home with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, in Shaffer Funeral Home's Pioneer Chapel. Pallbearers will be Michael Summers, BB Moore, Brian Belzer, David Chavers, Jason Sibley and Joshua Wascom. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Underwood-Wascom, William Underwood-Wascom, Raymond Sibley, Charlie Sibley, Clayton Sibley, Don Moore, Michael Blount and Bill Sibley. Funeral service and interment will also be scheduled at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, in Pine Grove Methodist Church and Cemetery in Pine Grove, La.
