Claude Swanson Wells, age 51, of Cleveland, Ohio formerly of Swords Creek, Virginia passed away Friday in a Cleveland hospital after an extended illness.

Born in Russell County, he was a son of the late Roy and Pearl Newberry Wells. He had resided in the Cleveland area for the past 30 years where he was employed in the steel industry.

He was of the Baptist Faith and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruby Webb Wells of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Debbie Sopenski and Miss Cynthia Wells both of Cleveland, Ohio; three sons, Jerry Wells, Gerry Wells and Mark Wells all of the home.

Five sisters, Mrs. Deloria Elkins of Swords Creek, Virginia, Mrs. Marie Corns of Lexington, Ohio, Mrs. Anna Pearl Miller, Mrs. Lois Lambert and Mrs. Ruby Brown all of Honaker; five brothers, Jessie Wells of Raven, Virginia, Danny Wells and Frazier Wells both of Swords Creek, Estle Wells of Houston, Texas and Kyle Wells of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one grandson also survives; his grandmother, Mrs. Maude Wells of Belfast, Va.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. in the Pine Creek Pole Church at Swords Creek with Rev. Carter Wells and Rev. Orville Collins officiating.

Interment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Honaker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
