From The Pierre Gerardy Family in America, by Evelyn Potter Park, 1979, p. 28:

William Lester Giles was born December 13, 1908, at Emporia, Kansas, and died November 6, 1976, at San Diego, California. Services were conducted by the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 244. He was entombed at Cypress View Mausoleum, San Diego, California.
Lester was married October 15, 1934, at Yuma, Arizona, to Mrs. Arzella Mae Price, the daughter of John J. Mangum and Mary Katherine Cuthbert. She was born May 4, 1904, and died June 24, 1975, at San Diego. Iva had two children, Curtis and Arzella Jean, when she and Lester were married. Iva was entombed at Cypress View Mausoleum. The family resided at 2644 Figueroa Blvd., San Diego, California.
Lester graduated from Grossmont Union High School and attended San Diego State University. Over the years he earned support for himself and his family as a cabinetmaker, avocado rancher, a self-employed heavy equipment operator, and as a grading engineer for the Griffith Company in San Diego County. He was a charter member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 12.
Lester was friendly, a devoted and loving husband and family man who considered "grandparenthood a special kind of heaven with all the joys that young children can contribute while the in-between generation carried the responsibility." He was a natural-born mechanic, a master builder and skillful at maintenance. Among other things, he built three boats by hand.
