Rebecca Martha (Abnet) Kludt, born December 11, 1917 went to Heaven on September 14, 2013 after a brief illness. Born in Moore Park, Michigan, Rebecca was raised in the Kalamazoo area, coming to Lansing in the late 1930's where she worked as a model and an elevator operator at Arbaughs Department Store and later in the offices of Oldsmobile Parts Division. She graduated from Mattawan High School, and later attended Lansing Business University and Lansing Community College. She married Leslie Kludt in 1941 who preceded her in death in 1984 and with whom she had five children who survive her: Gerianne Harder of Grady, NM; Thomas (Cheryl) of Beaver Island, MI; Rosemary of Portland, ME; Darrell (Pam: of Laingsburg, MI and Angela Bailey (Gordon) of Lansing, MI. She is also survived by her sister Mary Springer of Vicksburg, MI; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and a sister. A long-time community leader and volunteer, she was PTA president in multiple schools, census taker, election precinct chair, Sunday School teacher and church volunteer at Calvary Baptist, and was honored by the City for being instrumental in the development of Lansing's Neighborhood Watch program. Among the jobs she took to help fund her children's education were in the admissions department at Sparrow Hospital, ER receptionist at Ingham Medical Hospital, and Pinkerton Security Agent at Capital City Airport. A natural athlete, she was a prize-winning bowler and a city softball champ. Among her passions were ballroom dancing, rose gardening, driving her Cadillac, and spending time at the Otsego Lake cottage she and Les remodeled together. Her family wishes to thank the family of staff at Ingham Regional Assisted Living, her residence since 2009, and Hayes Green Beach Hospital for their professional and loving care. Services will be held Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, Michigan with visitation from 11:00 AM ~ 1:00 PM Thursday, prior to the funeral service, followed by interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
