Services for Roland P. Smith Were Held Monday

Services for 80 year old Roland P Smith were held on Monday, July 24th at the Blair Cemetery. Mr. Smith died on Saturday, July 22, 1978 at his home in Blair at 1500 Adams Street.

Services were held at the First Methodist Church, in Blair, with Dr. Gordon Patterson officiating. Campbell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith is survived by wife Eva, of Blair, one son Roland Jr. of Blair, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. There is also a brother, and a sister surviving. They are: Seymour Smith of Omaha, and Arlene Smith of Omaha.

Roland P. Smith was a farmer in the DeSoto area for many years. He was knowledgeable of DeSoto and Washington County history. He had always been active in Fair work and had won several Nebraska State Fair honors for the corn that had been grown on his farm.

Mr. Smith had been honored as a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, former Kiwanis member and a member of the Methodist Church for over 50 years. Mr. Smith was active in the Washington County Democratic Party and was an office manager of the ASCS office for 25 years.

Mr. Smith was born at DeSoto, Nebraska on April 21, 1898. He was married to Eva Schafer on June 8, 1921. The couple spent most of their 57 years of married life on the same farm in DeSoto. Just recently they had moved to Blair.

Pallbearers were: Bill Hardy, Jack Jensen, Ronald R. Jensen, Gary Petersen, Don Rasmussen, and Louis Sully.

Honorary Pallbearers were William Kobs, Waldo Kruse, Howard Kubie, Wayne Lambertz, Clark Lippincott, Emil Lorsch, Harry Paulsen and Ernest Vogt.
