John Lasley Boles was one of eight children born to Jacob and Rachel Cunningham Boles. He was a farmer, and married Miss Margret Matthews. The first of their five children was born in 1862. Their children were: Rachel M., Sara Ella, Thomas E., John J. and Henry Parkinson. They had a sixth child who did not survive to adulthood.
