Richard Benner Obituary

BENNER Richard J. "Dick" Richard J. "Dick" Benner, age 91, of Toledo, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at the Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania, OH surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 15, 1921, in Toledo, OH to John and Ida (Wagner) Benner. Dick was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Navy and member of the VFW Post 3925 in Erie, MI. He worked for the Jeep Corporation on Overland Parkway, retiring from the Accounting Department after 32 years of employment. A member of the UAW Local 12, he was a Union Steward and dedicated volunteer for the Richard Gosser Local 12 Children's Summer Camp in the Irish Hills, where generations of campers knew him as the speed boat driver. He enjoyed perch-fishing on Lake Erie, puzzles, and repairing things. A regular "Mr. Fix-It", he was even known to repair things that weren't necessarily broken. Dick was able to enjoy two vacations to Aruba with his wife, Mary Ann. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he cherished time spent with his family. He was a parishioner of Regina Coeli Catholic Church. Dick is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Gorski) Benner; stepdaughters, Barbara (Gary) Osborne, Mary Jane (Michael) Mexicott, Annette (Don) Schmidt, Kathy (Patrick) Kwapich and Judy (Adrian) Vance; sisters, Rita Albright and Dorothy (Dan) Sesavnicki; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his first wife, Lois Benner in 1982. Family and friends may visit on Friday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd., with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in Regina Coeli Church at 10:00 a.m. The Lucas County Burial Corps will conclude with Military Honors in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Memorial donations can be made to the Ebeid Hospice Residence of Sylvania, OH.
