The Death of Miss Bilgere

The family and friends of Miss Audrey Bilgere, the unfortunate victim of Wednesday's gasoline-fire accident at the A. V. Wehrheim home, were greatly shocked early this morning when her condition took a sudden change for the worse and the news of her death an hour or two later - about 8:15 a.m. - came as a shock to the whole community. All day yesterday it was thought she was improving and although she was more or less restless during the night her condition early this morning was thought to be satisfactory as could be expected and her mother and brother, who came here from Baldwin Wednesday night arranged to return home this morning. They were at the depot expecting to take the 7:10 train but some manner they missed the train. A little later the word reached them that the daughter and sister was dying and they barely had time to reach her bedside before death ended her suffering.

Audrey Marie Bilgere was but sixteen years old, her home being at Baldwin, Randolph County. She came here only two weeks ago, entering the Normal University at the beginning of the fall term and making her home with her sister, Mrs. Wehrheim.

A funeral service was held at the Wehrheim home at 4:30 this afternoon. The body will be taken to Baldwin Saturday morning, leaving here at 5 a.., via the M & O from Murphysboro. Services will be held at Baldwin at 8:30 Sunday afternoon.

Coroner Forshee came over from Murphysboro and impaneled a jury, the inquest being continued until next Tuesday.
The accident which caused the death of Miss Bilgere was one of the most terrible in the history of our city and the whole community grieves with the bereaved mother and other sorrowing relatives.
