Alonza L. Walker, 78, of Palatka, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Crestwood Nursing Facilities in Palatka following an extended illness. He was a native and longtime resident of Palatka, born July 8, 1925 to the late David and Rosa M. Walker Sr. He received his education in the Putnam County School District and was a 1944 graduate of Central Academy High School. He was a member of the Bethany Seventy Day Adventist Church, Palatka, where he served as first elder and treasurer. He was self-employed as a car dealer for more than 25 years. Survivors are his two devoted sisters, Alberta Scott and Irene Johnson, both of East Palatka; two devoted brothers, Eddie Walker Sr. of Palatka and Nathaniel Walker Sr. of East Palatka; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Walker of Palatka and Mattie Walker of Belle Glade; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends.
Visitation hours will be from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 9 at D. A. Boyd & Sons Funeral Home and from 11 a.m. until hours of services Thursday, June 10 at Bethany Seventh Day Adventist Church, Palatka. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 10 at the church with the Elder Calvin Robinson, pastor, officiating, assisted by Elder J. Ervin as the presider. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Palatka. D. A. Boyd & Sons Funeral Home, Palatka, is in charge of funeral services. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd 9 Jun 2004.)
