DEATH CAME AS HE SLEPT
Aged Recluse Found Dead In His Bed

Startling Discovery Made by Man Who Spent Night With John B. Johnson of Monroe - Little Known of His Life - Lived Alone

An old man named John B. Johnson was found dead in his bed at Monroe Tuesday afternoon. The circumstances surrounding his death are a little peculiar, but there is no doubt he died from natural causes. He lives alone, a sort of hermit life. He was too old to provide for himself and was assisted by the town.

A few days ago a man came down from Kimberly and struck up an acquaintance with Johnson. Monday night he procured a bottle of whisky and he says he and Johnson drank it.
The next morning he called Johnson, but he did not respond. He then went up town and returned to Johnson's place a short time after ward. He again called but the old man still did not answer. The stranger then approached the bed and threw back the cover. He was struck with horror to find Johnson dead. He went up town and notified the authorities. He gave a straightforward story and there is no doubt to his statement.

Little is known of Mr. Johnson although he has lived in Monroe for a dozen years or so. He has been a recluse and was intimate with no one. He has been married two or three times, but now has no family that is known of. He came from Nephi to this county. He was between 75 and 80 years of age. He has a brother K. B. Johnson, who also lives Monroe.
