WILLISTON — Services for Norman Lee Owens, Sr., 79, will be held five-thirty p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2005, at the Folk Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Williston Cemetery. The family will receive friends from seven to nine p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home in Williston. Memorials may be made to the Williston Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 367, Williston, SC 29853.
Mr. Owens died Tuesday. Born in Barnwell County, he was a son of the late Robert Young Owens, Sr. and Mary Ann Randall Owens. He retired as a training instructor for Milliken Company (Barnwell Woolen Mills). He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, was a member of the Men's Adult Sunday School Class and served as a deacon. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Weathersbee Owens of Williston; son, Norman L. Owens, Jr. of Blackville; daughters, Mary Lesley of Easley and Bobbie Fox of Pelzer; stepdaughters, Peggy McKinney and Dena Matthews, both of Travelers Rest, Brenda Heath of Williston and Alma Bodiford of Barnwell; sister, Pearle Benedict of Williston; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Roger Holbrook. Pallbearers: Donnie Benedict, Adrian Owens, Larry Leslie, Earle Fox, Dwight McNeeley, Billy Givens.
