She was born October 4, 1937, at Kalispell, Montana to Everett and Dorothy Monagin. Raised in Minot, she graduated from Minot High School in 1955, and attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and Minot State.
She married Dale O. Backen, August 6, 1957 in Minot, where they have resided since.
Barbara was the vice president of Northwest Music Center. A dancer, she did choreography for spring programs at Campus School in Minot. She appeared in MSC Summer Theater productions and productions arranged by the Minot Women's Symphony League. A member of the First Presbyterian Church and Chapter AL of the PEO Sisterhood.
Surviving: husband; son, Barry, Minot; daughters, Brenda and Jennifer, both of Minot, Rebecca Nourbakhsh, West Fargo; one grandson; mother, Cascade, Montana; brother, Thomas Monagin, Seattle, Washington; sisters, Linda Fuller, Great Falls, Montana, Marlene Westlake, Minot, Marilyn Phillippe, Littleton, Colorado
Funeral services were held, Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Minot.
