SEWARD & MINOOKA
DEATH OF EDWARD THAYER
Died, at his residence in Minooka, May 18, 1898. Mr. Edward Thayer, aged 72 years. Mr. Thayer caught a bad cold a couple of months ago of which he could not get relief. Edward Thayer was born July 30, 1826 in Highland County, Ohio, where he lived until he came to manhood. In 1850 he married Miss M.O. Sargent, in 1850 he and his family moved to White Willow, Kendall County, Illinois where he made his home until 1891, when he moved to Grundy County, recently moving to Minooka, where he resided till he fell asleep, not to be awakened until the resurrection morn. Deceased leaves, a wife, four sons and three daughters, Mrs. Julia Conklin of Seneca; Allan Thayer of Minooka, Edward and Frank and Mrs. Carrie Thomas of Chicago; Mrs. Frank Bedford and Charles Thayer of Aux Sable to mourn an affectionate father and husband; four daughters have preceded him to the promised land; and he also leaves five brothers - John Andrew of California, Hiram of Kansas, Milton of Texas, Caleb Thayer of Joliet, who was present at the funeral, and three sisters - Mrs. Joseph Reynolds, Mrs. James Reynolds, both of Iowa and Miss Emma Thayer of Chicago.
The funeral was held last Friday being conducted by Rev. Mr. McKinley, who took his text from Isaiah 6:6- "We all do fade as a leaflet." Remains were laid to rest in Aux Sable Cemetery, where a very large number of relatives and friends had gathered to pay their last respects to an old settler and friend.
