The Emporia Gazette - 12 February 1913 - "Concerning Mrs. Dallas Taggart - Mrs. Dallas Taggart, who died yesterday afternoon at her home on Elm Street, was sick but a few days. Friday morning she took a slight cold, which developed into acute Bright's disease. Before Friday her health had been apparently good. She attended a meeting of Garfield Circle Thursday afternoon, and was cheerful and happy. Harriet Judith Fuqua was born March 25, 1858 in Putnam County, Missouri. She came to Emporia July 5, 1860, and was married to Dallas Taggart January 13, 1881. Since that time the Taggarts have lived here continuously. Mrs. Taggart was a member of the Garfield Circle and the Royal Neighbors. She attended the Grace Methodist Church. She is survived by two children, Richard L. Taggart, and Mrs. T. R. Shepherd, and her husband, Dallas Taggart; two brothers, N. S. Fuqua, of Emporia: William Fuqua, of Topeka: and one sister, Mrs. Charles Ticer, of Emporia. The funeral services will be held at the home tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 and will be conducted by Rev. M. Lee Sorey, of the Christian Church. Interment will be made in Maplewood Cemetery. Mrs. Taggart had the love and respect of her neighbors as, perhaps, they are given to few. 'No woman in all the southwest part of town will be missed as Mrs. Taggart will be,' said one of her neighbors this morning. ' Wherever there was sickness or trouble or sorrow, there was Mrs. Taggart to help and to cheer. Her influence for good cannot be measured.' For the past eighteen years she had been kept closely at home caring for her invalid husband, but in spite of this, she found time to serve her neighbors. The children of the neighborhood loved her and took their griefs to her, and they will miss her as much as their mothers. Her friends feel her sudden taking away as a personal loss, and mourn with the husband and children. The Taggarts have lived in the house at 1 Elm Street for fourteen years."
