James F. York died at his farm home south west of Bird City, Tuesday morning, August 7. He had been in failing health for several years, altho he was farming with the help of his son and wife until the time of her death about 13 months ago.
Two sons accompanied the body to Red Cloud, Nebr. and the funeral services conducted by Rev. V. V. Whitsitt of Lebanon, were held before a large gathering of sorrowing relatives and friends at the Mt. Hope church Thursday afternoon, and the body laid to rest beside his wife and infant son, in the cemetery nearby. Rev. Whitsitt used Psalms 39:13 as his text.
He lived many years in Logan township, before going to Cheyenne county to make their home about fourteen years ago, so he had many friends in Smith county.
Jams Franklin York was born December 18, 1854 and died August 7, 1923. Thus he nearly completed his allotted time of three score and ten years.
He was married to Nellie Potter the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. N. Potter, December 6, 1894, and to this union were born three sons, Fay Oliver of Hastings, Nebraska, Burl Franklin, who died when three years old and Dallas Spencer who was still with his father. His beloved wife who was so anxious concerning his failing health and did so much of the out door work to help shield him was called to her heavenly home June 30, 1922, after only three days illness.
He was one of a family of several children. Besides his brother Charles of California he also has a brother Thorpe, living.
He leaves one grandson, Clifford York, the son of Fay and Elma York and may other relatives to mourn his death.
