John Gollnow was born on November 2, 1886, in Grant, Shawano, Wisconsin, to Carl and Matilda (Klemen). He grew up on the family farm there with his siblings: Bertha Betow, Otto, Frank, Martha Westphal and Emilie Schultz. John married Freda Buss on July 1, 1914, in Shawano County. The couple initially lived in Grant where John first worked as a mason and they then settled on Waupaca Street, Marion and operated Brown & Gollnow Feed and Grain. He died on July 1, 1970, in Clintonville, at the age of 83, and was buried in Marion and is buried on Greenleaf Cemetery.
Marion Advertiser- May 1935: John Gollnow caught a mess of 12 nice speckled trout on opening day of fishing.
