A time of visitation and support for family and friends will be at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory Monday from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by a Rosary Devotional at 7 p.m.
Born at Lawton, Oklahoma, to the late Alfred and Grace Marie (Badeaux) Freeland on September 12, 1946, Emerita grew up in Frederick, Oklahoma, and graduated from Frederick High School, the Class of 1964. She then enrolled at Southwestern State University, Weatherford, Oklahoma, where she received her Bachelors Degree in education. She later received Master Degrees in education and also in special education from East Central University, Ada, Oklahoma.
Emerita and Don Ray Schroeder were married August 23, 1969, in St. Helen's Catholic Church, Frederick, Oklahoma, and recently celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary. They were the parents of three sons, Sterling, Marty and Marc.
In addition to being a wife and mother, Emerita was an educator. She began her classroom teaching career in 1969 at Tipton, Oklahoma, and retired some 41 years later from the Morning Star School at Marietta, Oklahoma. Her specialties were teaching science and math.
A member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Emerita she was active in the church, and had taught sixth grade Sunday school for seven years. Emerita had also been a Cub Scout den mother and served on the District Scout Council.
Emerita passed from this life into life everlasting on her birthday, September 12, 2013, at Ardmore, Oklahoma.
Survivors include her husband, Don Schroeder of the home; three sons, Marc Schroeder, Highland, New York, Sterling "Matt" Schroeder and his wife, Janet, of Bentonville Arkansas, Marty Schroeder and his wife, Angela of Stillwater, Oklahoma; two granddaughters, Samantha and Ellie Schroeder; and her brother, Brett Freeland.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Freeland.
Serving as casket bearers will be Andrew Colony, Kenny Powell, Eric Lowber, Gil Guptil and Patrick Freeland.
