I, Bernhard Embich, was born in the year 1759, the 24th of March, in Hinkletown, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. My father was Christophel Embich, my mother was Anna Marilis nee Kuder, both form Halb Brunn in the Wurttemberg territory. Soon after my birth my parents took me to holy baptism and gave me the Christian name Johann Bernhard. The godparents were Johann Bernhard Frank and his wife. In the 14th year of my life, I was confirmed and admitted to holy communion by Pastor Muhlenberg, at that time Lutheran preacher in this congregation. In the year 1784, the 18th of May, I entered into matrimony with Susanna Dussing, married by Pastor Kurtz. In this marriage the Lord blessed us with nine children, five sons and four daughters. In this marriage we lived seventeen years, five months and nine days. We had many sicknesses: five children preceded their mother into eternity, two sons and three daughters. In the year 1801 it pleased the Lord beyond life and death to take my wife from this world through a lengthy consumption; she was sick about one year, leaving behind four children, three sons and a daughter. In this widowed state I lived two years. In the year 1803 I again entered the state of matrimony, with Susanna nee Ischler. We were married on the 23rd of October by Pastor Lochmann. God blessed us with a little son, who lived but a few days and the Lord took him again to himself. In this marriage we lived nineteen years, ten months in peace, after which it again pleased the Lord to take this wife from me, and the sun set for the second time over my house. She was bedridden about 19 months. After many sufferings and pains, she departed this life on the 15th of August 1823, in the morning about 2:30. She was buried the 16th in the afternoon on which occasion Mr. Ernst delivered a fitting message. In this widowed state I lived about three years. In the year 1826 I again entered the state of matrimony with Elisabeth Weizel nee Schmitt. We were married the 30th of July by Pastor Ernst. In this marriage we lived four months and thirteen days in love and good hope, when it again pleased the Lord beyond life and death to remove this wife from me, so she departed this life the 11th of December 1826. She was buried on the 13th, on which occasion Mr. Ernst delivered a beautiful address on the Revelation of St. John, the 2nd Chapter, the last part of the 10th verse: "Be faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life."
