HANOVER Helen L. (Shaffer) Nace, 86, passed peacefully Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at her residence. She was the loving wife of Millard R. Nace, her husband of 68 years.

Born May 6, 1921, in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Herbert W. and Mabel E. (Sterner) Shaffer.

Helen was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover. She was employed as a manager with Kwal Paints, Inc., in Denver, Colo., for 30 years until her retirement in 1981. While in Colorado, Helen loved to ski, and, upon returning to Hanover, she loved to golf with her husband. She also enjoyed walking around Hanover in her free time.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are one sister, Kathleen Wintrode of York; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin Shaffer, William Shaffer, and Burnell Shaffer. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at the Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser officiating.

Viewing will be held between 6 and 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A second viewing will begin 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and will run until the time of the service.

Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover. Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Wintrode, Steve Nace, Eric Wintrode, Craig Shaffer, Bruce Shaffer, and Paul Pfeiffer.
