LENA TURBEN AYERS, 92:
Lena Ruth Turben Ayers, 92, formerly of Corry, died Saturday, March 30, 1996, at Fairview Valley Retirement Home in Beallsville, Pa., where she lived since September 1991.
She was born in Pomeroy, Ohio, March 6, 1904, daughter of the late Jesse and Cora M. Lewis Turben. She graduated from Corry High School class of 1923, and continued her education at Edinboro State Normal School. She was an elementary teacher at several of the small one-room schools in the Corry School District, then became the 6th grade teacher at Conelway Elementary School, later serving as principal. she retired in 1969 after more than 46 years of service in the school district.
Mrs. Ayers was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Corry and the Pa. Retired Teachers Association. Her hobbies included traveling and flower gardening.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry N. Slye, in 1941; by her second husband, Delos N. Ayers, in 1957; a sister, Jessie E. Christy; and six brothers, Howard, Frank, Harold, Charles, Noah and Seth Turben. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
No calling hours will be observed. Friends may attend a service at Pine Grove Cemetery in Corry today at 2 p.m. The Rev. David Bunnell, pastor of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, will officiate. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Braken Funeral Home Inc.
