ORA BAKER'S
SAD DEATH

A Daughter of Mr. George Baker
is Killed in a Runaway
Near Versailles, Illinois.

VERSAILLES, Ill., July 31. -- Early this morning there occurred the sad death of Miss Ora Baker, daughter of Mr. George Baker, one of our leading farmers, living about four miles northwest of here.

Mr. Baker and Miss Ora were coming to town in a road cart, he intending to take the train to go to Minnesota to visit relatives. As they were driving along about half way to town, the pony they were driving became frightened and started to run, throwing Mr. Baker out and knocking him unconscious. Miss Baker was also thrown out, but her feet caught on an iron brace on one of the shafts which hanged her there, with her head and arms dragging on the ground. The pony ran a distance of a little over two miles, dragging her all the way, and when it was stopped she was picked up dead, her head and arms being terribly bruised.

She was a model young lady, sixteen years old, and an only daughter, well-liked by all. She was well educated, refined, and was always in the best of society. There never has been a death as sad as this one in our community, and never have our people felt so sad a shock over the loss of one whose future was so bright and promising. To be taken away in her young life is almost more than we can realize.

The funeral sermon will be preached at 9 o'clock tomorrow, after which the remains will be interred in the cemetery west of town.

Mr. Baker was very seriously injured but we hope that his injuries will not prove fatal.

The family have the sympathy of their many friends in this, their dark hour of sorrow.
