Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 13, at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2600 Pisgah Church Road, Greensboro. Senior Minister Hank Thompson will officiate. A Masonic graveside service will follow at Stokesdale United Methodist Church, 8305 Loyola Dr., Stokesdale.
Born April 18, 1923, the Dare County native fought heroically during World War II as a sergeant in the U.S. Army's 78th Lightning Division. He served in the European Theater, engaging in combat in the Ardennes, the Rhineland, the Battle of the Bulge, and Berlin.
Following the war, Will attended East Carolina University, and was the first member of his family to graduate from college. He earned a Master of Education degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. During his 30-year career in public education, he became an award-winning teacher and principal. He taught at schools in Stokesdale, Oak Ridge, Randleman, and Greensboro.
Always working selflessly to do his "Pillsbury's Best," Will was a member of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church and the Laws Parks Sunday School Class, a member of Stokesdale Chapter No. 202 Order of the Eastern Star, and a Master Mason in Stokesdale Lodge No. 428. Will's gentle spirit, faithful heart, love of nature, and down-home cooking touched many lives as an educator, neighbor, friend, husband, and father.
Surely, the stars in Heaven will shine brighter now that our precious Will has gone to spend eternity among their Brilliance.
