Herman B. Braun, 85, Foxholm, ND, died Wednesday at his home of natural causes.

Herman was born on December 22, 1919, in St. Mary's Township, rural Foxholm, ND, the son of Alois and Anna (Berlinger) Braun. He was reared and educated in the Foxholm area and attended rural school in St. Mary's Township, Ward County. He lived in St. Mary's Township, rural Foxholm his entire life except for the time that he was in the military during WWII.

Herman entered the US Army on December 27, 1941 and served as an AA Machine Gunner in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of World War II. He was discharged with the rank of Sergeant on January 26, 1946. Upon his discharge he went back to the farm and farmed until his death. For the last 20 years of his mother's life, Herman took care of her. Herman loved farming and farming was his life and he had a very close family and work partnership with the Richard and Pearl Sauer family. Earlier this year, he did his own summer fallowing and helped out with harvest. He was an expert in electrical systems in motors.

Herman was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Foxholm, ND and had served on the parish council, the Holy Name, sang in the choir and helped on the church dinners. He was a member of the Foxholm bachelors, this is group of bachelors that meet every Sunday after church and have lunch. He was also known as Foxholm's history book. Herman was a walking history book of the Foxholm area.

He is survived by his brother, Herbert Braun, Velva, ND; sisters, Theresa Velo, Williston, Rose Mary Fager, Osage City, Kansas and Sister Miriam Braun SMP, Bottineau, ND. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Edmund, Ewald, Joseph, Sr. Adeline SMP, Alois, Jr., Sr. Monica SMP, Sylvester and Raphel.

Funeral: Saturday, September 3, 2005 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Foxholm.

Vigil Prayer Service: Friday, September 2, 2005 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Foxhom.

Burial: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Foxholm.

Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign an register book on Friday, today (September 2, 2005) from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot and starting at 6 p.m. at the church in Foxholm.

Memorials are preferred to the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery fund.
