86, of Tempe passed away on September 10, 2013. Rupert was born May 13, 1927 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to Rupert Earl Bailey, Sr. and Lela Bailey. He joined the U.S. Navy towards the end of World War II and was stationed in the Philippine Islands. After his discharge from the Navy, the received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas and subsequently, his Master's Degree in Education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Rupert married Eddie Lee Edgmon on May 20, 1951 at Siloam Springs, Arkansas. They moved their family to Arizona in 1962 where Rupert taught 33 years on the Navajo Reservation at Leupp, Many Farms and Ganado before retiring in 1995 and moving to Payson, Arizona. He taught multiple generations of the same family on the reservation and loved to hear about the successes of the kids he taught over the years. Rupert is preceded in death by this wife of 61 years, Eddie Lee Bailey. He is survived by his brother Robert Bailey of Arkansas, his sister Wanda Reynolds of Arkansas, his sons Michael Bailey of Cottonwood, Arizona, Eddie Earl Bailey, Sr. (LaVina), of Tempe, Arizona, his daughter Vanessa Fulton (Robert) of Buckeye, Arizona, his grandsons Chris Bailey (Christa) of Oklahoma, Eddie Earl Bailey, Jr., of Tempe, Arizona, Aaron Bailey of Flagstaff, Arizona, his grand-daughters Stacy Leuchs (Joe) of Buckeye, Arizona, Renee of Flagstaff, Arizona, his great-grandkids Julian and Ashton of Flagstaff, Katharine, Preston and Violet of Buckeye, as well as the 100's of kids he taught on the reservation. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, September 17th, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Buckeye Funeral Home, 104 E. Baseline Road, Buckeye AZ. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 18th, at 1:30 pm at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona. Services are to be conducted by Dr. John R. Nells of Winslow, Arizona.
