John was born, and died, in Hopewell Twp., old Hunterdon (now Mercer) Co., NJ. He was probably the son of Daniel Blackwell whose delivery is recorded in Dr. Benjamin VanKirk's journal on 18 September 1804 since other documents place his birth at ca. 1803-4. He married Sarah Baker on 11 Mar. 1835 in Hunterdon Co., NJ.
