Sometime before 1917, it appears that her parents separated since her father Floyd was registered as living in South Dakota with a new wife according to his 1917 Draft Registration Card and the 1920 census. According to the 1920 United States Federal Census taken 7 Jan 1920, Catherine R was 7 years old and along with her mother Mary Flatt (31) and her two siblings, Floyde (10) and Cloyde(10), lived with her grandfather David Ziegler (74). According to the 1930 United States Federal Census taken 18 Apr 1930, they were still living with her grandfather in the Village of Thomasboro, Rantoul Township in Champaign County, Illinois. At the time, Catherine M was 17 years old and along with her mother Mary Flatt (41) and her two siblings; Floyde O (20) and Cloyde D (20), lived with her grandfather David Ziegler (84).
She married Paul Eugene Payne on 2 Dec 1933 in Paxton, Ford, Illinois. After her marriage to Paul in 1933, they continued to live with her mother and brother. According to the 1940 United States Federal Census taken on 16 Apr 1940, her mother now owned a home in Thomasboro, Champaign, Illinois. At the time, Catharine Payne (27) and her husband Paul Payne (27) lived with her mother Mary Flatt (52) (says widowed, but not) and her brother Cloyde (30). In addition, her maternal uncle David Ziegler Jr (64) (says widowed, but not) also lived with them. Sometime after her divorce to Paul in 1946, and marriage to Claire in 1948, they moved to Tucson, Pima County, Arizona. It appears she resided in Tucson until her death in 1968. According to family records, Kathryn had no children with either husband.
Kathryn passed away at the age of 55 on 1 Sep 1968 in Tucson, Pima, Arizona. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, 11 am on 5 Sep 1968 at the Adair Chapel. She was laid to rest in East Lawn Palms Cemetery in Tucson, Pima, Arizona.
