Thank you to Mary Lou Hooper for both of the gravesite pictures taken 10/30/13.

Married to the former Amanda M. Popple on December 20, 1862 in Gowanda, Erie County, New York.

A well known Western New York sportsman and one of Hamburg's pioneers, died at his home on Main Street at Pierce Avenue after an illness of several months. Born in Lodi, now known as Gowanda, Mr. Stuart moved to Whites Corners, now known as Hamburg when a young man and has lived in the Village ever since. Mr. Stuart never sought public office, but in politics, he was always a staunch Republican.

He was a member of the county committee for many years. Mr. Stuart was a member of the Hamburg Road Driver's Association, the Erie County Road Driver's Association and former president for the Erie County Fair Association. He was a starter and later a judge of the horse races at fairs in Western New York for many years.

He officiated this fall at the races held at the Indian Fair on the Seneca Reservation at Lawtons, New York. Mr. Stuart is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lydia Fanning Stuart; one son, Edward S. Stuart of Hamburg and two sisters; Mrs. Belle Andrews of Utica and Mrs. Fred W. Constantine of Buffalo.

Burial was December 15, 1927.
