Vernon E. Rusert, 74, Blue Springs, Mo., formerly of Sherman, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at North Kansas City Hospital.

Vernon was born September 7, 1930, in Sherman, Mo., to Ernest and Sylvia (Alexander) Rusert. He was a 1947 graduate of Eureka High School in Eureka, Mo., and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea. Vernon married Martha Berner on May 5, 1956. Vernon was the best husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather that anyone could possibly have. His parents and his grandson, Jamie, preceded him in death.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Martha; daughters, Karen Blackwell, Robyn Dawson, Susan Rusert, Trish Monnig and Jennifer Marshall; six grandchildren, Beth, Matt, Grant, Brenna, Mandy and Austin; and eight "great-ones".

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Timothy Lutheran Church, 425 NW R.D. Mize Rd., Blue Springs. Burial with military honors will be in the "Jackson County Veteran's Field of Honor" in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to either Timothy Lutheran Church or the American Heart Assoc. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, Grain Valley, (816) 463-4030.
