Jean Victor McKoy Graham; died Thursday, September 12, 2013. She was born in Wilmington on November 18, 1918, to parents Adair Morey McKoy and Katie Reston Grainger McKoy. In 1938, she married her beloved cousin, Dr. Charles Pattison Graham.
By nature, Jean Graham was "wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove" (Matthew 10:16). Intelligent and intuitive, she missed little, but chose to react to life gracefully and generously. She was tireless in her volunteer service with the Ministering Circle organization, for which she channeled gifts and assistance to a host of needy individuals; and an energetic member of the Society of Colonial Dames, to which she provided much historical research and support.
Jean Graham loved her church, St. James Episcopal, and taught Sunday School there for many years. The last time she addressed a class, she challenged them to study more and to be receptive. "I just want you young folks to know that God's grace is there, waiting always for us to open our hearts to receive it."
Jean Graham was predeceased by her husband, "Charlie," who was her life's greatest joy. Dr. Graham died February 19, 2000. She is survived by three children: Dr. Charles Pattison Graham, Jr. (Vicky), Jean Victor Graham Rapp (Bob), and Adair McKoy Graham (Louise).
Her grandchildren are Rachel Cameron Graham, Adair McKoy Graham, Jr., Jean Graham Keller, Hilda Graham Harder, Dr. Michelle Graham Gallant, Dr. Katie Graham Lyons, Caroline Pattison Graham, Morey Graham Garcia-Gallont, Robert Cullen Rapp III, and Katherine Rapp Wood. She also is survived by numerous great-grandchildren.
The family expresses gratitude to Jean's longtime caregivers: Mary Ann Clay, Mattie Davis, Carolyn Everett, Faye Holmes, Brandy Johnson, and Linda Phillips.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 to 6 PM at the residence, 3745 Reston Court.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, September 14, 2013 at St. James Episcopal Church with the the Rev. Ron Abrams officiating. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
