"Alton Daily News" - Joyce K. Richards, 81, died at 11:36 p.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at her daughter’s home in St. Charles, MO. Born September 10, 1928 in Patterson, IL, she was the daughter of Ewell and Blanche (Dawdy) Arnold.
She worked as a teletypist at Sears in downtown Alton, was a secretary for 10 years at Calvary Baptist Church in Alton and worked as a secretary in the office of Hillcrest Apartments in Alton. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. On June 25, 1949 in Murrayville, IL, she married Carl Allen Richards. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1982.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and David Kanofsky and Sally and George Coleman; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Tammy Richards; an adopted daughter and best friend, Diana Bouillon; eight grandchildren, Kristi Bruner, Amanda (Nathan) Perry, Luke (Beth) Coleman, Danielle (Anthony) Tackett, Stevenson Coleman, Widelande Coleman, Bethany Richards, and Emily Richards; one great grandchild, Noelle Harper Perry; and a brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Marilyn Arnold. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a granddaughter, Beth Renee Bruner and an infant brother.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. Reverend Jerry Dudley will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to the Allen Richards Scholarship Fund at Calvary Baptist Church or the National Multiple Sclerosis Gateway Area Chapter.
