Michael Charles Assink, 42, died Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, due to complications from Type 1 Diabetes.
He was born March 5, 1971 to Charles and Linda (Sturtz) Assink. Mike attended Cedar Falls schools where he enjoyed participating in the Cedar Falls Swim Club.
The family moved to New Jersey where he completed his education. Mike enjoyed working in the construction field especially operating heavy highway equipment.
He is survived by his daughter, Alyssa Assink, of Waterloo; a grandson, Bryce; his parents, Charles and Linda Assink, of Waterloo; his sister, Karen Seiverd, of Toms River, New Jersey; his brother, Mark (Tina) Assink, of Egg Harbor City, New Jersey; two nephews, Kyle Seiverd and Justin Assink; a niece, Faith Assink, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mike was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bernard and Agnes Assink, and his maternal grandparents, Wayne and Dorothy Sturtz.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2013, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 3—5:00 p.m. Sunday at the church. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
