ROBERT PERCY HARROWER was born on the 24th of August, 1857, at 10 Douglas Terrace, Broughty Ferry, Dundee Parish, Forfarshire (now Angus), Scotland. He was the son of corn merchant George Kerr Harrower and his wife, Jemima Margaret Wright. True to family tradition, Robert grew up to become a merchant banker as did many of his siblings.

On 24 Dec 1882 in a registry office in London City, London, England, Robert married his first wife, Johanna Susan Flynn. Susan (as she was known) was born 20 March 1863 in Umritsur, West Bengal Province, India, the daughter of a British Army Captain. Although her very early childhood was spent in India, Susan grew up in London.

Robert and Susan had a son, Henry Robert Harrower. However, when the child was barely two years old (and Robert was away on business), Susan died on 06 March 1885 in Upper Holloway, London, of "inflammation of the brain" and "exhaustion" (whatever that means!).

Several years later, Robert married again, this time to Elizabeth Magor from Truro, Cornwall, England. The marriage took place on 13 August 1889, in London City. However, less than two years after this marriage took place, on the 29th April 1891, Robert drowned on his way home from India from yet another business trip. He was buried at sea.
