A member of the Congregational Church (one of the original members of the First Congregational Church..." estab. 50 years before her death) & a Sunday School teacher, she was also active in the church's Women's Auxiliary. She was well educated for the day & quite active aside from her duties as a homemaker. A member of Marion Circle, Kings Daughters of Tennessee, she also was a member of Alpha Book Club. Known to her siblings' children as "Aunt Bert," she was said to have been a VERY attractive young woman, later a handsome matron & dowager. An accomplished pianist, she was often asked to accompany singers & other musicians and was also an outstanding seamtress. Born with a heart murmur, she was told by doctor not to try & have children however she had four, son J. Thompson, and 3 daughters, Mary, Roberta, & Maria.

In later years was quite stout and before death suffered from some form of dementia. Funeral services were by Dr. Marshall Wingfield & Dr. T. K. Young with burial at Forest Hill-Mid-town in Memphis. (Gratitude to Neil Loftis for grave info,)
