Candace and Detric were blessed to welcome their son, Brendin Oneal in November 2003. Candace, as a faithful wife and doting mother was committed to academic excellence and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia in 2005. Upon arrival of Breyauna Lynnette in February 2006, the Avents family was complete.
As a faithful member for 20 years at Little Grove Baptist Church, Suffolk, VA, she was dedicated in sowing seeds of love and encouragement into the lives of young people. With a passion for educating children, she loved her role as The Director of Christian Youth Education at Little Grove Baptist Church. Candace also utilized her gift of choreography that enhanced the dance ministries of the church while maintaining a robust curriculum for Sunday School. Under her leadership, The Foundation Learning Center expanded from solely an aftercare program to one that included both before and after care while providing academic preparation for young scholars. Candace, indeed celebrated a life well spent, as a leader in all youth related activities in her church home.
In 2008, she joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Gamma Delta Omega Chapter and led The Emerging Young Leaders Program for middle school females. Candace devised a curriculum and spent many hours of preparation to execute the mentoring program. She was also a Regional Conference Presenter. As a faithful and dedicated member of the chapter, she willingly offered her expertise to add value to any community related activity.
She believed in the promotion of sisterhood and unity by uplifting others. Whether it was teaching a dance class, participating in Jazzercise, Zumba or Black Girls Run, Candace energetically welcomed the opportunity to fellowship.
Candace was an extraordinarily multi-gifted woman of God. She enjoyed embellishing, bedazzling and creating memorable moments. Thus evolved Simply Avents Inc.; an event and party planning business that she and her husband enjoyed owning and leading together. Known for their "over the top" parties and special events, she did everything with a spirit of excellence; it was her desire to make lasting memories with each event.
Realizing there were more gifts inside of her, she developed a love for writing and creatively reinforcing little lessons about life to young readers. Her published book, "Gimme Will Not Get It" serves as a teaching instrument for parents and students. Candace began to blog and quickly became an inspiration to the many people in cyberspace following the diagnosis of "Triple Negative" breast cancer in May 2012. Her candid account of the highs and lows helped many to mend broken relationships, heal old wounds and ultimately point them to Christ.
Her devoted and loving husband, Detric and their brilliant and talented children, Brendin and Breyana Avents celebrate her life along with her parents, Pastor Ralph and Lynnette Richardson, grandmother, Sylvia E. Richardson, sister, Arminta Richardson Harris (Michael), brother, CPT Roderick Richardson Sr., aunts and uncles; Geraldine Banks, Amanda Murray (Robert), Aretha Gayle, Cathy Richardson, Rosalind Copeland (Spurgeon), Yolonda Richardson; mother and father in love, Dr. Craig and Karen Avents, brothers-in-love, Derek Perry (Yvette) and Pastor Craig Avents,II (Mona); numerous nieces and nephews, many close knitted cousins, beloved god children, The Foundation Learning Center Family, mentees, and extended family members and friends.
Candace often recited the lyrics to the powerful hymn "It Is Well with My Soul" while maintaining a posture of peace during difficult times. She leaves an unforgettable legacy that will continue through the lives of those who were blessed to be in her presence.
