Eliza A. Schlichter-Senff was born 10 Jun 1835 in either Ohio or Pennsylvania, to Mathias and Mary (Gross) Schlichter. Different sources disagree about her birth state. Eliza was counted twice in the 1850 Census, once with her family and again in the John Weimer household where she was working in Sugar Creek Twp., Stark Co., OH.
Eliza married William B. Senff 23 Nov 1856 in Canton, Stark Co., OH at the Evangelical Reformed Church by Rev. Samuel B. Leiter.
The family lived in Ohio,Indiana,Iowa, and Minnesota, while having 8 children, only 3 of whom lived to marry and rear families, the other 5 died young.
Eliza spent well over 3 years rearing her children by herself while William was in the army during the Civil War. She may have lived with or near her parents in Jackson Twp., Huntington Co., IN.
