Elizabeth Ernestine Chapman Wood passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 in Brownwood, Texas. She was 79. Services and interment was at 4 Bar W Wood Ranch in Brown County. "Dean" was born October 6, 1931 in Odessa, Texas to Earnest and Lena Mae Wescott Chapman. She married Billy Mack Wood on February 28, 1948 in Rising Star, Texas.
She lived in Longview, Odessa and Big Spring before moving to Lake Brownwood. She and Bill moved into Brown County in the early 1980's and were among the famililes who started the Lake Brownwood First United Methodist Church. Bill and Dean Wood were avid square dancers even through their elderly years dancing the night away at their 50th wedding anniversary.
Dean will be remembered as one fantastic mother and aunt. She gave full support to her son, Danny, as he grew up in Boy Scouts, Little League Baseball, and in his teenage years as he played the drums in his band. She was a professional musician and vocalist for many years playing keyboards and sharing her sultry, smooth voice in song. This talent she shared with family members at reunions each year.
Dean was preceded in death by her husband, Bill. She is survived by her son, Danny, and his wife Patti Peck Wood of Rising Star, a sister Evelyn Clarey of Breckenridge, sisters-in-law Betty Wyatt of San Angelo, Treva Simpson of Mesquite, and Peggy Brown Wood of San Angelo, and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends who loved her.
