George William Poe, 78, died Wednesday, November 10, 2004 in Sweetwater. Services are 2 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2004 in McCoy Chapel of Memories with Dr. Frank Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories in Sweetwater, directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.

George was born November 26, 1925 in Anson, Texas. His first wife, Elizabeth Butcher preceded him in death. He married his second wife, Peggy Jo Sparks, on October 8, 1966 in Sweetwater.

George was a member of Hamlin United Methodist Church. He lived in the Hamlin area most of his life and moved to Sweetwater in 1966 and made that his final residence. He graduated from San Diego High School in San Diego, CA and attended Eastern Montana University. He was an independent oil operator and Cotton Buyer for over 50 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. and he served during WWII. He was a member of the Hamlin Masonic Lodge, was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Suez Shrine Temple.

Survivors include four sons, (names omitted for privacy). He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Elizabeth.

The family will receive friends at the McCoy Funeral Home Friday at noon until service time.

Pallbearers are Jason Poe, Jeffrey Poe, Jacob Poe, Jared Poe, J.P. Poe, Jackson Hagar and J.D. Hagar.
