RICKMAN, Robert Irvin, died peacefully, September 8, 2013 (his mother's birthday) in Mechanicsville. He was born in Clover, Va. on May 30, 1923 to the late Lottie Lacks Rickman and James Thomas Rickman and was also preceded in death by a son, Mickey L. Rickman; sisters, Annie Jeffress Rickman and Agnes Dollaye; brothers, James Thomas Rickman Jr. and Isaac R. Rickman. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Louise Nichols Rickman; stepsons, Vincent T. Nichols (Carol) and James K. Nichols (Peggy); one sister, Alice R. Hardie of Lexington, Ky.; two sisters-in-law, Mildred C. Rickman and Frances G. Rickman. Also surviving are grandchildren, great-grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews. A World War II Navy veteran, he was a 42-year employee at C&P Telephone Company, serving as executive vice president of CWA Local #2201 and later served as president of the Union's Retiree's Club. An active member of Enon Methodist Church, he was also past commander of American Legion Post #175 in Mechanicsville. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday (today) at the Mechanicsville location of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, where Masonic services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Methodist Camp Rainbow Connection, P.O. Box 5606, Glen Allen, Va. 23058.
