12/22/1915:
(much of this must have been the words of E. E. Vestal)
Mrs. Eliza Johnson died Sunday, December 5, 1915, at 7 PM being at the time of her death 81 years 3 months and 5 days of age. She died at the home of her son, E. E. Vestal (Emsley Evans Vestal). She was united in marriage to Johnson Vestal and was married when she was 17 years of age. She was born in Chariton County, Mo., and to this union were born 9 children, 5 of whom are living and 4 of whom are dead. Three children survive her: John Vestal of Unionville, Ive Vestal (Emsley Evans Vestal) of Stahl and Mary Workman of Kansas City, Kan. After living as a widow a few years she was united in marriage to Martin Johnson (John Martin Johnson). At her death she didn't belong to any church. However, she believed in a God who was able to save his people from their sins, from the least to the greatest. She believed that God would work everything after the counsel of His own will and none could stay his hand. (The coming paragraph must have been the words of E. E. Vestal) Mother is gone and our home is left desolate. She left children and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a loving mother and grandmother to all of her children. Her funeral services were conducted by Labe McFarland. She was laid to rest in the Rose Cemetery near Graysville. Mother is gone. She can never come to us. I hope by the grace of God we will meet where no farewell tears are shed. It is God, He who breathed us can all our sorrows heal.
