Jake Schwartz, 60, dies at hospital
Jake (J.B.) Schwartz, 60, construction worker of Berne route 1, died at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Adams county memorial hospital, following a heart attack suffered two weeks ago.
He was born in Blue Creek township March 25, 1911, a son of John P. and Barbara Schwartz. He was a member of the Christian Mission church.
Surviving are his wife, the former Nancy Hostetler; his mother, who now resides in Nottawa, Mich.; eight sons, Jake J., Eli J., John J., David J. Samuel J., and Robert J. Schwartz, all of Middlebury, Ind., William J. of Leo, and Melvin J. of Fort Wayne; five daughters, Mrs. Gary (Betty) Miller of Middlebury, Ind., Mrs. Joe (Lydia) Wickey of Geneva route 2, Mrs. Donald (Nancy) Brewster of Geneva route 1, Barbara and Mary Lou, both at home; a foster son, Jack Pailey of Farmland; five sisters, Mrs. George (Elizabeth) Blout of Sturgis, Mrs. John (Barbara A.) Schwartz of Berne route 1, Mrs. Mahlon, (Rosa) Miller of Englewood, Calif.; Mrs. Neal (Rachel) Hostetler of Centerville, Mich., and Mrs. Sam K. Schwartz of Geneva; 10 brothers, Peter M. of Nottawa, Mich., Chris B. and Simon B., both of Colon, Mich., John B. of Reading, Mich., Sol B. of Bluffton route 2, Sam B. of Cromwell, Melvin B. Of Colon, Mich., Abe B. of Nottawa, Mich., Amos B. of Geneva, and Joe B. of Berne; and 22 grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother are deceased.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Evangelical Mennonite church, with Rev. Robert E. Zehr and Rev. Jack E. Schrock officiating. Friends may call at the Yager funeral home in Berne after 7 p.m. today.
