Son of Johann Waelchli and Anna Baumgartner.

His obituary indicates he married Mary Ann Shaffroth, Sept 13, 1864, Ohio, though her maiden name also found Schafroth and incorrectly Schaffer on her DC.
She is daughter of Johannes Heinrich Schafroth and Chrisitana Elisabetha Stettler both born Switzerland, who lived and died in Monroe County, Ohio.

John 49 and Mary A 37 spelled Waelchly appear on 1880 census, Allentown, PA where he works in printing office and they have children Fred E 14, Lilly O 11 both born Ohio, Laura A 9, Stella M 6, India 4 and Homer A 2 (4 born PA).

He was reporter on Leche Bote and then editor of Welt-Bote newspaper for 35 years.
