James William Underwood was born September 25, 1920 in Nocona, TX and passed away on September 7, 2013 in Dallas, TX.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dolores N. Underwood, son James R. Underwood, daughters: Kaye Stinson, Dana Worley,Lavada Underwood,Barna Davis and Patsy Jean Underwood. 15 grand children, 23 great grand children, 3 great-great grand children.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, William Irb "Pete" Underwood and Lillian Bernice Waddill, his brother, Robert C. Underwood, and his daughter, Nadine Underwood.

His childhood was spent in Nocona, TX among the large Underwood family, growing up as a contemporary with some of his aunts and uncles. He worked at the Cotton Gin as a teenager. At the age of 23, he moved to Dallas, TX where he met and married the love of his life, Dolores Collins, July 9, 1943. They planned to have a large family as the movie, "Cheaper by the Dozen" was produced at that time and both were family oriented.

He worked hard to provide for the family they started. On May 15, 1949, he was ordained as a Minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ by The Churches of Jesus Christ, Inc. His was a firm belief in water baptism in the name of Jesus, according to Acts 2:38. He lived to see all of his children and children of two more generations follow his example. Two of his children, James Robert and Lavada have followed him as ordained ministers of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In the 1950's he worked as a casket maker, and also as a mechanic. He became a life member of the Carpenter's Local Union # 198 and #1276, which changed to Local #429 in 1980. From 1956-1971 he owned his own business making and placing cabinets commercially and in residences. His son, James Robert, worked along beside him at this time. In the 1980's he was a millwright and retired at the age of 62 in 1985.
