Irene May McKinney was born on Jan. 4, 1907, in Glenwood to George H. Garrett and Martha (Utterback) Garrett. She was raised in the Glenwood area and attended school there.

On April 10, 1926, she married Chester Gideon "Mac" McKinney in Des Moines. The couple lived in Des Moines for many years. Irene worked as a beauty operator and at Younkers before going to work at Iowa Power & Light. Following retirement, Irene and Mac moved to Versailles, Mo. and built a home on the Lake of the Ozarks. In 1978, the couple moved to Pleasantville.

She passed away on May 16, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 98.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1989; son, Larry; daughter, Beverly; three brothers, Elmer, Aubrey and Robert and seven sisters, Maude, Edith, Twila, Gladys, Dorothy, Louise and Margie.

Survivors include her five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and seven great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were May 20 in Pleasantville with Pastor Don Hill officiating. Interment was at Pleasantville Cemetery.
