Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, May 8 2012 - Glenda Marlene (Hickman) Shoemaker, the daughter of Louis Borchert Hickman and Audra Helen (Eberting) Hickman, was born September 11, 1934, in Clinton. She was a graduate of Clinton High School and attended the University of Missouri for two years. Marlene was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Owen Shoemaker on July 10, 1955. They lived on their farm east of Clinton until 1993 and then resided in Clinton. She was a devoted wife and mother. As a young girl, she joined the Clinton First Baptist Church, later moving her membership to the First Christian Church and was currently a member of the Clinton United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Bob of the home; two children, Suzanne (Shoemaker) McCoy, born February 12, 1958, and her husband, Matthew Isadore McCoy, Liberty, and Robert Stanton Shoemaker, born July 4, 1963, and his wife Janet Lynn (Adkins) Shoemaker, Clinton; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Lynn (Chapman) Shoemaker of Clinton; six grandchildren, Byron McCoy and his wife, Bridgette (Savoie) McCoy of Clinton, Eric Stanton Shoemaker of Richardson, Texas, Katelynne Shoemaker of Kansas City, Casie Marie McCoy of Chicago, Illinois, Sarah Lynn Shoemaker of Clinton and Madison Shoemaker of Clinton; twin great-grandchildren, Matthew and Audrey McCoy; one brother, James Carol Hickman and his wife, Sally, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son Scott R. Shoemaker on January 23, 2010. In addition to her membership with the United Methodist Church, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and Chapter IU, P.E.O. She was also a member of civic and social clubs, including several bridge clubs. She was an avid flower gardener and seamstress. Her favorite activity was doing for others, especially her family. Marlene was truly the heart and soul of our family. She made every day a special occasion and taught all around her the true meaning of "living a beautiful life". She will be greatly missed. Her legacy will live on through the beauty of her grandchildren and their children. Marlene died early Friday morning, April 27, 2012, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City. Memorial services were held Tuesday, May 1, at the Clinton United Methodist Church.
