Lois Deane Davis, Our mom, passed away September 6, 2013 at the age of 89 after a long and joy-filled life.

Those family members who passed away previously include her husband, Wayne Davis; her father, James C. Deane, Sr.; mother, Bertie Couch Deane; brother, James C. "Dizzy" Deane, Jr.; and sister, Wanda Deane Byrum . Mom was born in Lynch, Kentucky on October 24, 1923. After graduating from Rogersville High School in Rogersville, Tennessee in 1941, she moved with her family to Blount County. Upon moving to Maryville, the Deane family became charter members of what is now Broadway Baptist Church. Mom attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville for three years until she was forced to withdraw due to health problems. To help with the war effort of the mid 40's, Mom went to work at the Alcoa Aluminum Plant as an electrician's assistant. While visiting a friend at Maryville College in 1942, Mom met her future husband, Wayne, and they dated until Dad enlisted in the Army in 1943. After corresponding continuously throughout the war, Mom and Dad married June 25, 1948. They were married for 64 years until Dad passed away last December. After raising their five children, Mom was able to work out of the home and was employed for many years at both Lyons IGA and Farrport IGA. Even after entering the workforce, Mom's first priority was always her family. She made sure that each of us realized the importance of an education as well as the importance of hard work. Mom was a very strong woman who never complained, especially during the last years of her life. She always managed to have a smile for everyone, no matter what the circumstance.

Mom leaves behind many who will miss her greatly, including her brothers, Paul Deane and Kenneth Dean; her sisters, Jeannette "Jenny" Deane Long and Pat Deane; sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Donna Davis, Scott and Ann Davis, and Kent and Gloria Davis; daughters and sons- in-law, Mike and Yvonne Davis Outler and Jon and Stacey Davis Nordquist; grandchildren Ami Davis, Jon Davis, Emily Davis Cherry wife of Steve Cherry, Allison Keller Reagan wife of Jake Reagan, Megan Keller Brown wife of Anthony Brown, Shane Davis, Brad Davis, Abby Davis, Sarah Nordquist and Katherine Nordquist; great-grandchildren, Hunter Brown, Jackson Cherry, and Lily Reagan.

We give a special note of thanks to Mom's caregivers Gwen and Wendy Banks and Theressa Bounds for their love and patience over the past year and a half. We also express special appreciation to the staff in the CCU and CRU at Blount Memorial Hospital for all their support.

In lieu of flowers, you may send donations to Special Growers,453 Broadmoor Drive, Maryville, TN 37803.

The family will receive friends Monday, September 9, 2013, from 5:00-7:00pm at Broadway Baptist Church, 2329 E. Broadway Avenue, Maryville , Tennessee. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life Service at Broadway Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Collins and Dr. Kenneth Deane officiating.
