Homicide on King River.— The Fresno Expositor gives the particulars of a shooting affray at Centerville, in which one B. A. Andrews was killed by Jerry Ridgeway, August 1st. The affray arose from an old feud, and Ridgeway was the asaulting party.

Excerpt from Sacramento Daily Union, Volume 42, Number 7394, 25 January 1872
J. P. Ridgeway, indicted for the murder of B. R.Andrews, has escaped from prison under the following circumstance: On last Saturday evening Ashman went to Ridgeway's cell for the purpose of carrying him his supper. The Sheriff (Ashman) was accompanied by a man named Jonathan Lewis, who had expressed a desire to visit Ridgeway. The prisoner being out of firewood, Ashman stepped out after a load leaving Lewis in the cell with the prisoner and the door unfastened. Scarcely had Ashman left the jail before Ridgeway turned and walked toward and out of the door of the cell into the main part of the jail, and from thence out doors. Lewis says he did not think at first that Ridgeway was trying to escape, but after he passed out of tbe cell door Lewis turned and followed, but Ridgeway by that time was out of sight. He met the Sheriff in the hall returning with the wood, and told him thatRidgeway had gone. Ashman immediately dropped his wood and started in pursuit, but althoughRidgeway could not have had more than a half minute's start he could see nothing of him.
