James 'Jim' Herman Miller was born 23 Dec 1914 in Portland, Multnomah Co., OR, to Henry Jacob & Dorothy Ingeborg (Lindell) Miller. Jim attended schools in the Parkrose district of Portland. He attended Williamette University after high school in 1938 before entering the Army and served during WW II for 3 3/4 years where he was a PFC. In the war he contacted jungle rot which caused him a great deal of pain for which he spent a great deal of time in the hospital recovering.
Jim married LaVerne Ruth Olson, dau. of Haakon & Ida (Tharaldson) Olson, on 23 Sep 1939 in Seattle, King Co., WA, while Jim was still in the Army.
Jim belonged to the Rotary Club, Elks Lodge, Eagles Lodge, The Knife & Fork Club, and the First United Methodist Church in Salem, OR. Jim was an Electrical Wholesaler, and owned his own business (Capital Wholesale Elec. Co.) in Salem, from 1968 until he retired in 1980. Jim also had an avocation of Photography, at which he excelled.
Jim died 17 Jul 1983 in Salem Memorial Hosital of a traumatic head injury after being struck by an unlicensed teenage driver just 2 blocks from his home.
He was survived by his wife, LaVerne Olson-Miller of Salem, OR; children: Marcia Jane (Dr. Jack) Rohrbough of Albany, OR, Arlene Louise (Col. L. John) Murdock of McGuire AFB, NJ, and Steven Miller of Salem, OR; mother Dorothy Lindell-Miller of Portland, OR; brothers: Elmer (Virginia) Miller, & Henry G. 'Joe' (Shirley) Miller of Portland, OR; 4 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Henry Jacob Miller; brother Lawrence M. Miller; infant grandson, Michael David Rohrbough.
