Virgil Lee Mohr was born 11 Mar 1938 at the home of his Uncle Leon Senff, just east of Dazey, Barnes Co., ND, to Carl Goeleib & Hazel (Senff) Mohr. In 1942 his family moved to Vermillion, SD, and 2 years later to Centerville, SD, where Virgil was educated, and graduated from Centerville High School. He was baptized and confirmed in the First English Lutheran Church in Centerville. He worked on farms in this area until Jan of 1958 when he joined the US Army. Virgil also worked in construction in Sioux City, IA.
Virgil married Iva Pearl (Powell) Walker on 21 Mar 1959 in Lawton, Comanche Co., OK while he was still in the Army. He had been in the army 2 years and was discharged at Ft. Hood, Texas 28 Sep 1959. He had been married just 6 mos. when he got that Army Discharge and was on his way home to South Dakota on his motorcycle when he had an accident and was killed, pronounced dead at the scene near Little Rock, AR. He was 21 yrs., 6 mos. 19 days old when he was killed on 30 Sept 1959.
Surviving him were his parents, Carl & Hazel,of Centerville, SD, his wife, Iva of Oklahoma, his brother C. Duane Mohr of Jefferson, SD, his sister, Gloria Joan (Geralds) Jonason of Viborg, SD, 4 nieces & six nephews.
