Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce Ann Robinson Watkins, age 71 of Ashland, will be Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Richard East and Steve Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. Watkins passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at her home. A native and life-long resident of Clay County and graduate of Bibb Graves High School "Class of 1960", she had worked for several years at Russell Manufacturing. Joyce had also been the pianist at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church for 60 years and the pianist for the Zionaires for over 40 years.
Mrs. Watkins is survived by her son, Jason Watkins and wife, Beth of Ashland; her grandson, Nathan Watkins of Ashland; her sister, Shirley Patterson and husband, Ken of Ashland; her brother, Jesse Robinson and wife, Becky of Alexander City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Wayne Watkins and her parents: Wilbur Jesse Robinson and Connie Allen Robinson.
Pallbearers will be Jackson Patterson, Jeff Patterson, Jerry Robinson, Jock Burgess, Steve Rich, Chase Rich, Steven Robinson, Chad Harris and Mark Walker. Deacons of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. and until 12:15 P.M. on Sunday. She will lie in state at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M.
